Eric Theret - Sculptor

Presentation

Most of my sculptures are in granit with which I associate water, glass, steel or stainless steel.

Creating them requires manual as well as innovative industrial techniques.

Since almost 30 years I am playing with the material, adding different kinds of surfaces: raw, blazed, sanded, chiselled, rounded, smoothed, tempered, polished.

The granits are very hard and profound; the slightest relief catches the light. They are wonderfully suited for working with materials. A large part of my creations serves this desire.

My artwork has substantially evolved over these many years:

After purely figurative work at the beginning, simplifying and purifying my sculptures as much as possible quickly appeared absolutely necessary to me. This has become my absolute rule of work.

It led me to explore imprints in granit and black diabase.

These fabulous materials offer great opportunities for working matter and achieving readability. We experience sculptures not only with our eyes but also with our hands.

I started associating different matters with granit and diabase when I created objects and landscapes.

Although I create monumental sculptures, it is the little sculptures that serve to explore and to discover.

Through my work I have always tried to establish a privileged relationship, a communion, with people.
